During the last few months of pregnancy the mean vitamin A content of the blood plasma of 27 women who received no special supplements was 93 U.S.P. units per 100 ml., while the carotene content was 0.127 mg. For 26 women who received daily doses of 10, 000 I.U. of vitamin A as a fish liver oil concentrate the corresponding values were 122 I.U. and 0.146 mg., and for 48 women who received 10, 000 I.U. of carotene daily, 123 I.U. and 0.243 mg.
