Tissue culture studies on liver cells of tuberculin sensitized animals in the presence of tuberculin (purified protein derivative)

Tissue culture studies on liver cells of tuberculin sensitized animals in the presence of tuberculin (purified protein derivative)

Johns Hopk. Hosp. Bull 89: 303-308

In the tuberculin type of hypersensitivity, not only the cells derived from mesoderm, but also hepatic epithelial cells are more sensitive to the protein of the tubercle bacillus than are normal cells. Hepatic epithelial cells from a rabbit sensitized to tubercle bacilli showed lack of growth, cellular injury and necrosis upon exposure in vitro to tuberculin. Specific humoral (circulating) antibodies are not necessary for the allergic reaction.
