A contribution to the formation of fungistatic substances from bacteria of the B. subtilis group. Investigations on the properties and mode of action of an antibiotic from B. subtilis

A contribution to the formation of fungistatic substances from bacteria of the B. subtilis group. Investigations on the properties and mode of action of an antibiotic from B. subtilis

Kuhn-Archiv 74: 1-2, 19-120. 6 pp

A str. of B. subtilis described from the Landwirtschaftliche Fakultat, Halle, E. Germany, produced a new polypeptide antibiotic which was extracted in n-butanol and purified by paper chromatography. Activity was tested against Cladosporium cucumerinum. The antibiotic inhibited spore germination of all 22 test fungi at 25-200 gamma /ml. and at lower concs. caused blistery deformations of the germ tubes of all except Phytophthora cactorum; against bacteria the effect was more variable.
