A note on the effect of delayed insemination on the conception rate in dairy cows

About one third of the cows coming in heat on holidays are aritificially bred and inseminated the following day. Breeding efficiency on days after holidays is lower by about 3 to 4%, because about one quarter of the cows presented to insemination on these days are bred too late. The 60-90 day non-return rate of cows coming in heat on holidays and inseminated on the following day is 42.1% as compared to a non-return of 55.7% for cows inseminated on other weekdays. Differences in efficiency of inseminations made on days after holidays and made on other days vary with the months.
