Biology of the larval stages of Diplostomum spathaceum.

Biology of the larval stages of Diplostomum spathaceum.

Materiali Nauchnoi Konferentsii (XII), Leningradski Veterinarni Institut, May 20-26 1963. 125-126

Observations on Diplostomum spathaceum infection in various molluscan hosts in fish ponds and in Lymnaea stagnalis and Radix ovata in laboratory aquaria have shown that, under the climatic conditions of the Leningrad region, the parasite overwinters not only as expected in the metacercarial stage in the second intermediate fish host but also as parthenitae in the snail. Snails kept in the laboratory at 18 degrees C. shed cercariae throughout the winter.
