For part 1 see Abst. 2739, Vol. 33. 2. The artificial rumen contained 50 ml phosphate buffer, 25 ml 2% glucose solution with minerals and 300 ml filtered rumen fluid. The rumen fluid came from cows unaccustomed to urea or used to it, some of them given a feed of urea and soya extraction meal, and in some tests urea alone or with the meal was added in vitro. Fluid from cows accustomed to urea had more urease activity than that from cows given a feed with urea but not accustomed to it.
