Bulk feeds for milk production. 1. The influence of level of concentrate feeding in addition to silage and hay on milk yield and milk composition

Bulk feeds for milk production. 1. The influence of level of concentrate feeding in addition to silage and hay on milk yield and milk composition

J. Dairy Res, 27: 191-204

The first experiment was of balanced Latin square design with 3 groups of 4 Ayrshire cows and lasted 16 weeks: 1.25, 2.5, 3.75 and 5 lb concentrates per gal milk produced were given. In the second experiment 1.25 and 5 lb concentrates per gal were given to 2 groups of 13 cows. In both experiments the basal ration was of hay and silage to appetite. Digestible crude protein ranged from 70 to 100 and starch equivalent from 82 to 125% of the Woodman standard in the first experiment.
