Chemical composition, digestibility in vivo and calculated nutritive value of a forage maize at different vegetative stages.

Chemical composition, digestibility in vivo and calculated nutritive value of a forage maize at different vegetative stages.

Prod. animale, Naples. 2: 41-55

The chemical composition of stems and leaves of forage maize was estimated when the shoots had formed, when the ears appeared and at the milk wax stage, and that of the cobs at the third stage and values for whole plant were calculated. In digestibility trials rabbits of about the same weight were fed on the individual parts of the plant, two per part, for 10 days. At all 3 stages the content of crude fibre in dry matter was almost constant.
