In addition to N, P and K, the study included Ca, Mg and S. Both leaves and stems were below the normal dry weight when any one of these elements was excluded from the solution. Sub-normal root dry weights resulted from omitting N, Ca or Mg, but in plants lacking K, P or S the roots were higher in dry weight than those of the controls.
