Comparison of results of chemical determinations of phosphorus and potassium in soil and response of leys to phosphate and potassium fertilizers during the period 1946-1950.

Results are reported of a large number of field experiments with leys on different soils in various parts of Norway. A significant correlation between yield increase by fertilizing and nutrient status of the soil existed for P on most soils. In respect of K, the correlation varied with soil type on lowland soils, only clay and clay-free soils showing significant correlations; the correlation was not significant on mountain and coastal soils and poor on arctic soils and peats.
