In sand-culture trials, nutrient solutions containing 0.15-9 ppm B or 0.2-20 ppm Mn were applied. Optimum dosage of B was 0.75 ppm and the threshold of toxicity was slightly below 3 ppm; excess B accumulated in the leaves, leading to malformations and decrease in flowering and fruiting. The optimum dose of Mn was just above 0.2 ppm and toxicity appeared at 5 ppm; accumulation of Mn in the leaves led to brown marginal spots, delayed flowering and maturing, and impaired fertilizing.
