Dynamics of soil changes in the reclamation of saline alkali soils of the Indo-Gangetic alluvium

Dynamics of soil changes in the reclamation of saline alkali soils of the Indo-Gangetic alluvium

J. Indian Soc. Soil Sci 7: 213-222

A typical saline-alkaline soil was treated in pots with 0 or 3 t/acre of gypsum; it was left unplanted or seeded to paddy or to Sesbania aculeata; flushing was carried out in half the pots. Data on the chemical composition of the soil and on the effects of treatment on hydraulic conductivity, composition of the flushates and leachates, and yields of paddy, Sesbania and a subsequent barley crop are presented.
