Effect of feeding different ratios of roughage to concentrate upon milk production and digestibility of the ration

Effect of feeding different ratios of roughage to concentrate upon milk production and digestibility of the ration

J. Dairy Sci 42: 1070-1078

In a randomized block experiment with 12 highyielding Holstein cows rations with 80, 60 or 40 per cent. roughage were given. Roughage was maize silage and mixed hay and the concentrate mixture had ground maize, ground oats, wheat bran, maize distiller's dried grains, molasses and minerals. The cows were accustomed to the rations during the 7th and 8th weeks of lactation, and the experimental period was of 112 days.
