A field experiment was conducted during rabi 2002 in Dharwad, Karnataka, India, to determine the effect of in situ moisture conservation practices and N levels on the growth and yield of rabi sorghum (cv. Maladandi) in Vertisols under rainfed conditions. The main plots comprised of in situ moisture conservation practices, namely flat bed, ridges and furrows, compartment bunding and broad bed and furrows, which were made manually one month prior to sowing.
