Effect of phosphate on the hardiness of rice seedling transplanted under bad climatic conditions. 1. Amount of phosphate fertilizing in upland seed-bed and the character of seedling grown therein. 2. Effect of various treatments with phosphate on rice seed.

On being transplanted, such seedlings showed better adaptation to poor environmental conditions (low temperature, low light intensity), better rooting ability, growth and yields than seedlings grown with lower levels of phosphate. Coating seeds with agar containing phosphate promoted root growth.
