Abstract
The inhibitory effect of mucin on infection with purified TMV in a mixture of the 2 components (1: 1) was 76.8%. Mucin sol. + infectious tobacco sap (1: 1) reduced infectivity by 20-35%. Urinary mucoprotein mixed with infectious sap (1: 1) reduced infectivity by 78.7%, and inhibited infection by purified TMV almost 100%. The infectivity of the mixture of purified TMV, fresh sap from healthy tobacco plants, and mucoproteins depended on the order in which the components were combined.
