The effects of Irrigating at 1/2, 1 and 10 bars of soil suction and of 0, low, and high nitrogen on the amount of leaf tip-burn, tree sunburn, shoot dieback, leaf scorch, leaf color, tree vigor, and leaf moisture deficits occurring on young Hass avocado trees were studied. The amount of leaf tipburn, sunburn, shoot dieback, and leaf scorch was least in the 1/2 bar treatments. Tree vigor, leaf size and leaf color was best in the 1/2 bar treatments. Increasing amounts of nitrogen tended to decrease leaf tipburn in all irrigation levels; improve leaf color in the 1/2 and 1 bar levels; improve leaf color in the 1/2 and 1 bar treatments; and reduce tree vigor in the 10 bar plots. Leaf moisture deficits were greatest in the 10 bar and least in the 1/2 bar treatments.
