In glasshouse investigations, saline irrigation waters with salt concentrations ranging from 400 to 9000 ppm. were used on Gila loam that had been adjusted to 4 levels of exchangeable Na. Saline irrigation water containing 3000 ppm. dissolved salts did not depress lucerne yield unless the Na content of the soil, or of the irrigation water, was high.
