Evaluation of hops. III. Convenient method for polarimetric determination of the a-soft resin of hops

The polarimetric estimation of the total "humulones" in the a-soft resin of hops is improved both in its precision and convenience by treatment of the methanolic solution of the hop resins with a selected activated carbon. The removal of interfering substances, especially chlorophyll, in this way enables concentrated solutions to be examined, with the result that for a normal hop the observable rotation is sufficiently high to make reading errors negligible.
