Factors influencing the incidence and control of superficial scald on cool-stored Granny Smith Apples. Effect of storage atmosphere and temperature on Granny Smith Apples

Factors influencing the incidence and control of superficial scald on cool-stored Granny Smith Apples. Effect of storage atmosphere and temperature on Granny Smith Apples

Qd J. agric. Sci, 19: 2, 241-248; 295-298

At Qd Dept Agric. incidence of scald was greatly affected by maturity at picking and by storage temp., but allowance for these factors, alone or together, did not make some effective control practices superfluous. Diphenylamine and ethoxyquin (dip in 1, 000 p.p.m.) were effective, but pre-storage dips of 1, 000 p.p.m. ascorbic, gallic, and tannic acid were not. Ethoxyquin as a pre-harvest spray was less effective than as post-harvest dips and was phytotoxic also.
