Fattening cattle with hormones. IV. Parenteral administration of various oestrogen preparations to bull calves, young bulls and steers as well as heifer calves

Over a 7-yr. period, field trials were made on a total of 2058 young cattle of various Austrian breeds. Their ages ranged from 9 mths. to 2 yrs. and av. weight from 300 to 400 kg. at the start of the approx. 150-day indoor fattening period. A single dose of 100 mg. diethylstilboestrol dipropionate within the first 3 wks. considerably improved growth, differences between treated and control animals ranging from + 11.8 to -8.7%, the average being 3. 4%, which was not significant.
