Field experiments comparing ammonium nitrate, ammonium sulphate & urea applied repetitively to grassland



J. agric. Sci 60: 297-303



In 10 experiments in England & Scotland, each N fertilizer was applied at 30 & 60 Ib/acre N in spring & after each cut. Total yields & yields at most individual cuts of dry matter & herbage N were increased by each increment of N applied. In 6 experiments NH4NO3 & (NH4)2SO4 gave similar dry-matter yields in all cuts but in 4 on calcareous soils (NH4)2SO4 gave lower yields than NH4NO3 at one or more cuts (usually the second or third).
