Field experiments on the reclamation of alkali (szik) soils.

In an alkali soil (pH 9.5, exchangeable Na 5.2 m e %) of low organic-matter content (3.55% loss on ignition), pH values and exchangeable-Na levels as well as degree of soil dispersion were decreased, and grain and straw yields of rice and of a subsequent barley crop were increased more by combined treatment with 0.5 % CaSO4 and 2% rice husks than by treatment with a mixture of basic slag and rice husks, or with rice husks alone.
