Field trial of live virus vaccination procedure for prevention of vesicular stomatitis in dairy cattle

The vaccine, a lyophilized preparation consisting of equal volumes of allantoic fluids containing VS virus New Jersey serotype and 0.2% bovine serum albumin in 0.02M phosphate buffered water at pH 7.2, was transported to Panama and was exposed to tropical temperatures on 5 occasions from 8 to 18 hours before final use. Of 233 vaccinated cattle, each receiving one ml. of vaccine containing about 100 CELD50 of virus, 110 failed to develop antibody within 2 weeks.
