Tobacco seedlings were transferred to sand cultures with and without N. At the appearance of N-deficiency symptoms, half the deficient plants were sprayed at 3-day intervals with a urea product, a total of 15 g. of urea being supplied to 7 plants. Dry matter in the leaves, but not in the stems, was very significantly increased by spraying. It was, however, still far below the level in plants supplied with a complete nutrient solution.
