Genesis and pedo-chemical characteristics of dhankan gray hydromorphic soils in the lower Gangetic plains of Uttar Pradesh

The distinguishing features of these soils, occurring in flat depressions and low-lying tracts far away from drainage channels, are a kankar pan formed from calcareous nodules below the illuviated horizon at about 21/2 ft and relatively high exchangeable Mg and Na contents in the colloidal complex.
