Genetics of resistance to diseases and pests



Indian J. Genet, 17: 305-17



After a general consideration of (1) variability in the pathogen, (2) the nature and genetical basis of resistance and (3) expression of resistance in relation to environmental conditions, the author summarizes progress made in southeast Asia in research on inheritance of resistance to diseases and pests in rice, cotton and other crops. It is pointed out that the genetics of resistance has so far received little attention in this region, with the exception of some crops in India.
