Growth and food consumption in plaice. 1. Limanda yokohamae Gunther)

Growth and food consumption in plaice. 1. Limanda yokohamae Gunther)

Tohoku J. Agric. Res 7: 151-162

Plaice caught in the Bay of Sendai weighed from 42 to 279 g. and were up to 3 years old. They were kept in a concrete tank and were fed on annelids, Tylorrhynchus heterochaetus, and clams, Venerupis japonica. Freshly caught fish had in their stomachs mostly annelids and molluscs; the greatest amount was 2.34 per cent. of the bodyweight, in 1-year-old fish caught in August. In the tank both intake relative to bodyweight and efficiency of conversion of food decreased as the fish grew.
