Histology of the mammary gland. I. Cyto-logical and cytochemical studies of colostrum bodies appeared in mammary gland of pregnant, lactating and post-weaning mice

Histology of the mammary gland. I. Cyto-logical and cytochemical studies of colostrum bodies appeared in mammary gland of pregnant, lactating and post-weaning mice

Tohoku J. agric. Res, 7: 1, 35-45

A study of colostrum bodies at various stages of pregnancy and lactation in mice is described. The author concludes that these bodies, which he has observed in particular at the beginning and end of lactation, are derived from wandering lymphocytes and neutrophiles which penetrate the alveolar walls. This confirms previous reports on the origin of these bodies but he disagrees with the suggestion that the colostrum corpuscles absorb milk fat in degenerating alveoli.
