Imported Indian parasite of pea aphid established in California

Imported Indian parasite of pea aphid established in California

Calif. Agric, Berkeley, Cal 14(9): 5-6

In 1958-60, Aphidius smithi Sharma & Subba Rao was introduced into California from India and released against Macrosiphum pisum (Harris) (pisi (Kalt.)) on lucerne. It became established in 1958 in several of the coastal valleys, exerted considerable control of the aphid and spread to many of the interior valleys, including the desert regions of southern. California. It was released and recovered in the Central Valley, but populations there were restricted by the scarcity of the host in summer.
