Inheritance in beans of the necrotic reaction to tobacco mosaic virus

A newly obtained seed stock of the garden bean variety Scotia was found not to give the localized necrotic lesion reaction normally produced on the variety following inoculation with tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), and was thus termed resistant. The local lesion reaction was found to be conditioned by a single recessive gene, tm, with resistance dominant.
