The mutant characters of pale-green plant colour and spindly growth habit were inherited independently, each being conditioned by a single recessive gene. The mutant "narrow leaf" was determined by an incompletely dominant gene. In view of this tendency towards dominance of the narrow-leaved condition and the fact that most of the indigenous wild forms of Vigna are narrow leaved, it is suggested that this character may in fact be the result of a reverse mutation to an ancestral condition.
