Inheritance of awnedness and glume colour in some new vulgare wheat varieties

From studies of 18 crosses involving nine varieties, three pairs of genes were found to affect awnedness. The gene B1 was responsible for the apically awnleted condition and the B2 for short awned, while the combinations B 1 B2 gave the awnless and b 1 b2 the fully awned types. It was suggested that gene A contributed towards awnedness although its recessive allele a had no effect.
