Inheritance of fruit size and shape in the tomato

Inheritance of fruit size and shape in the tomato

Proceedings of the X International Congress of Genetics, McGill University, Montreal, Canada, August 20-27 1958. 2: 134-35

Inheritance of fruit shape and size was studied in the F1, F2, F3 and back-cross generations of a cross between two tomatoes referred to as Lindstrom's d-p-o-s (dwarf, peach fruit, oval fruit, compound inflorescence-linkage group I) and MacArthur's f-a-j-lf (fasciated fruit, green stem, jointless pedicel, leafy inflorescence- linkage group V). On a logarithmic scale, segregation at the major loci o and f contributed 30% and 50% of the total additive genetic variance.
