Inheritance of glume length and pistil number in rice and their relationship with the occurrence of anthocyanin pigment in certain plant parts

Crosses between T787 (AC1225), a non-pigmented variety with long glumes and multiple pistils, and T258 (AC806), a short-glumed, unipistillate, fully pigmented variety were studied. Results indicated that long glume is mono-genically recessive to short glume and that multiple pistil is controlled by three recessive genes, designated mpa, , mpb and mpc; the presence of any two of the latter is necessary for the manifestation of this character.
