Inheritance of low iodine value in safflower

Inheritance of low iodine value in safflower

Proceedings, abstracts of papers and addresses of the 58th Annual Convention of the Association of Southern Agricultural Workers, Inc. held in Jackson, Mississippi, February 6-8 1961. 27

Commercial varieties have an iodine value ranging from 138 to 145, with high linoleic and low oleic acid contents. The introduction Indian 57-147 has an iodine value of 80-90, with low linoleic and high oleic acid contents. Oil from seed of F2 plants from N-10 x Indian 57-147 comprised three classes for iodine value: low, like Indian 57-147; intermediate, with values of 115-129; and high, 131-140. The frequencies of the three classes approximated to a 1: 2: 1 ratio.
