Inheritance of milk constituents in mountain cattle.

Factors for correcting S.N.F., protein and butterfat for stage of lactation and age were computed using 1, 822 milk samples. Repeatability and heritability estimates, obtained using 2, 206 milk samples from 462 cows, mainly Brown Alpine and Spotted Mountain cattle, were 0.68 and 0.54 for fat, 0.78 and 0.37 for protein and 0.44 and 0.20 for S.N.F. respectively. Correlations between constituents among tests within cows were low, while those among cows were high.
