Inheritance of ovule number in Pisum sativum L

A. P. I. accession which produces up to 12 ovules/fruit was used in crosses with 5 lines of peas (P. sativum) averaging 10-20% fewer ovules per fruit. Monogenic segregation was observed for the "high ovule" character. Dominance for the low number was incomplete. The symbol ho is proposed for the gene conditioning the high ovule character.
