Inheritance of plant height, stem rust resistance, chaff color and the forage production of selected lines of contrasting height in a wheat cross

Progenies from the cross Milam x were studied. The data suggested that high-yielding short lines equalling normal lines in forage yield could be selected from this cross. Resistance to stem-rust 11 was inherited in the ratio 15 resistant: 1 susceptible and to race 15B in the ratio 63 resistant: 1 susceptible. There was no segregation for reaction to race 29, indicating that the two parents carry a gene or genes in common for resistance to this race.
