Inheritance of seed color and resistance to races of stem and crown rust in Avena strigosa

Inheritance of seed color and resistance to races of stem and crown rust in Avena strigosa

Agron. J, 50: 539-41

Reciprocal crosses between the varieties CD3820 and CI4748 of A. strigosa were studied. The grey-striped seed colour of CD3820 was dominant to the white colour of CI4748 and controlled by a single factor. Resistance to each of the races 6, 7, 7A and 8 of Puccinia graminis f. sp. avenae appeared to be determined by the same gene or genes; similarly the genes responsible for resistance to race 202 of P. coronata var, avenae also conferred resistance to race 258.
