Inheritance of seed dehiscence in a cross between Avena byzantina C. Koch and Avena fatua L

An experiment was conducted to study the inheritance of seed dehiscence in a cross between A. byzantina X A. fatua. Seed dehiscence was found to be controlled by 1 recessive gene pair; this characteristic, therefore, should present no serious problems for the breeder interested is using A. fatua in an oat breeding program.
