Inheritance of some characters in muscmelons (Cacumis melo L.)

Inheritance of some characters in muscmelons (Cacumis melo L.)

Genet. Polon, 3: 265-74

In reciprocal crosses between C. melo var. vulgaris 'Gribowski' and C. melo var. agrestis, the monecism of the cultivar was dominant over the andromonecism of var. agrestis and was conditioned by a single gene pair. The elongate form of the ovary in pistillate flowers of Gribowski was in contrast with the more rounded form characterizing the hermaphrodite flowers of var. agrestis; the difference is maintained during subsequent development and is reflected in the form of the mature fruits.
