A study was made of six-year-old open-pollinated progenies of trees selected for high or for low specific gravity of wood. Specific gravity was highly heritable and growth in height and diameter was moderately heritable. It is concluded that by selecting for specific gravity an increase in dry wood production of two tons per acre is possible, while an increase of seven tons per acre may result from selection for growth rate.
