Inheritance of yield components and seed coat mottling and smudginess in soybeans

Analyses were made of the F3 and F4 bulked progenies of 81 randomly selected F2 plants from each of the crosses Hawkeye x Capital, Hardome x Chippewa and Seneca x Chippewa. Seed yield was the only yield component giving high heritability estimates. Heritability was also high for plant height, date of flowering and date of maturity and for seed-coat mottling and smudginess but varied among the different crosses for lodging index and fruiting period.
