Inheritance of yield components in a diallel cross of cotton

Gossypium hirsutum 'Acala 4/42', 'Coker 100A' and 'Empire' and G. barbadense 'Pima 32', Tima S-1' and 'Ashmouni' were crossed in all possible combinations. The F1s and parents were then compared in a Youden square with five replicates. A strong heterotic effect, usually more pronounced in interspecific crosses, was observed in date of first flower, plant height, yield of seed cotton, lint yield and seed index.
