With regard to race 42, the resistant varieties N.P. 790 and E. 1913 were found to carry a single dominant gene pair for resistance. Similarly for biotype 42 B these 2 parents carry 1 dominant gene pair. The resistance of Kenya 184 P.2 A.I.F. was found to be controlled by 2 dominant duplicate factors for this biotype. The results are discussed in the light of similar segregations obtained in studies with certain other Indian races of stem rust and also of their bearing in wheat breeding work in India, with special reference to biotype 42 B.
