A survey was made of the frequency of beta -casein variants in the milk of cows from 5 breeds, using the technique described more briefly in part I (D.S.A. 24). Of the 3 variants, which occurred singly or in pairs, the A variant was most common and found in the milk of all breeds, the B variant occurred in Jersey and, less frequently, in Guernsey and Friesian milks, while the C variant was found only in Guernsey milk at low frequency. Ayrshire and Shorthorn milks contained only the A variant.
