Inhibition and stimulation of the biological activity of B vitamins by X-rays

Vitamins of the B group were exposed to X-rays, 5 to 500 kr, in aqueous solution, in the crystalline form and as part of a nutritive medium designed for Neurospora crassa. In aqueous solution riboflavin proved to be particularly sensitive to X-rays, followed by p-aminobenzoic acid, choline, vitamin B1, biotin and nicotinic acid. Exposure of the vitamins in the crystalline state had no appreciable effect on their biological activity.
