Inhibition by histidine of prototroph reversion in a diploid yeast heteroallelic for the adenine-histidine locus

Inhibition by histidine of prototroph reversion in a diploid yeast heteroallelic for the adenine-histidine locus

CR Acad. Sci., Paris, 249: 1412-14

In this study of mutants of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (ad3) which require adenine and histidine for growth, heteroallelic diploids between two ad3 mutants of different origin were used, which, as a result of nonreciprocal recombination at the ad3 locus, frequently give rise to prototrophic reversions. On minimal media the rate of prototrophic reversion was 10-4/cell/day, without apparent cell multiplication.
