Inhibition of acid formation from carbohydrates by stannous fluoride and stannous chlorofluoride

Production of acid from glucose by salivary sediment in vitro was inhibited by stannous fluoride, stannous chlorofluoride and stannous chloride in concentrations of M/20, 000, M/18, 000 and M/7000, respectively. Inhibition was proportional to the concentration of Sn, not of F. NaF was less effective, even at greater F concentration, than SnF2. Other complex fluorides with good inhibitory effect were KFeF3, KZnF3, KCuF3, KNiF3 and KMnF3; KCoF3 was least effective.
